High Road Motorsports Track Build

High Road Motorsports is proud to announce our latest shop build, a BMW HP4 track weapon. This superbike started life as a BMW S1000RR HP4. For those that don’t know the term, HP4 means the bike has been factory upgraded by BMW. In this case the bike came from the factory with a whole host of upgrades designed to make the already fast S1000RR and make it lighter, more powerful, and handle better. To keep things light, the bike came with forged wheels, lighter battery and more. To bring the bike to a stop upgraded Brembo calipers and racier setup for the ABS settings was developed while competing in the German IDM superbike championship. and to give the bike a little more thrust it came with a larger diameter exhaust system that makes more torque.

This was the start point for our crazy build. This HP4 was bought with a blown motor and brought into the shop for a ground-up build. The first order of business was to bring the beast back to life. on evenings and weekends, a fresh motor was sourced, torn down, and rebuilt to ensure it would be reliable. Since this bike is destined for track day not racing the motor internals were left stock for ease of maintenance and reliability. For added power, the bike was fitted with a Ti exhaust system from Arrow. The fully open exhaust system was paired with a high-flow air filter and custom mapping from Brentuning. Unfortunately, our local tracks have noise limits so a custom link pipe with a titanium high flow catalytic converter was made to bring the DB level under control.

With power sorted the next step was weight. The factory plastics were replaced with lightweight race bodywork from local manufacturer Flexiglass. Since the bike is a full-time track weapon, we can remove all the lights, signals, and mirrors. All this removed allows us to use a lightweight racing subframe and front fairing stay. In addition, we were able to save even more weight by replacing the relatively light stock battery with an ultra-lightweight lithium battery. The stock wheels are already very light but more rotating mass was removed by using a lighter 520 chain from D.I.D and aluminum sprockets. To finish off the diet the bike got a new carbon fiber rear fender with an integrated chain guard from Ilmberger.

To make the handling sharper the stock electronic suspension was replaced with a race-spec cartridge kit and rear shock from Nitron. The suspension was chosen after consultation with our friends over at Suspensionwerx in North Vancouver with springs and settings chosen specifically for the rider. For 99% of riders, the stock electronic suspension is better. It gives better performance over a wider range of road conditions and also makes the bike much more comfortable. But all of that was given up for gains on the racetrack.

With the bike going and turning well the last thing was to bring the bike back to a stop. The front brake disks were upgraded with Brembo’s world superbike spec T drive front rotors. The Master cylinder was upgraded to a racing unit from Accossato and the lines were upgraded to Canadian-made stainless-steel lines from HEL performance. Since the calipers are already quite nice units from Brembo they were left alone and just got new race-spec brake pads. On the back end, the brake disk was replaced with a slightly lighter unit and a new underslung caliper that makes wheel changes easier and quicker.

Lastly, finishing touches were added to take the bike to the next level. The dash was swapped out to a Starlane digital race dash with improved lap timing functionality. The handlebar switches were replaced by units from Alpha racing and streamlines the bars as there is no need for the horn, high beams, or turn signals anymore. The ignition system had the key replaced with a big red button which makes starting the bike even more dramatic. Crash protection was added with GB racing engine covers.

This HP4 is ultimate BMW track bike and it will be ridden at tracks around BC. If you see us or the bike, come say hi or just come check it out while it’s on display in our Langley shop.
